This set is wonderful! My husband & I loved putting it together and the monkey minifigures are delightful. There's great details to this set, such as the spiral staircase hiding behind the waterfall, a raft that a monkey may or may not escape on (if he realizes that it's chained to the rocks), a magnificent bird that perches above the whole scene, whisps of clouds that give the mountain a dreamy quality and more! I have this set displayed where I can see it frequently because I think it's a beautiful work of art. I hope there are more sets like this in the future. Also, the value for the price is fantastic.
The Legendary Flower Mountain set is the most expensive one in the third wave of Monkie Kid kits. However, if you break down that price tag, the value is good. You get a decent number of bricks and build time for the price. And what a build it is. The final set looks amazing and I found very few issues with it. I wish LEGO® designers had not included a tiger skin chair though. That was really in poor taste, especially considering the set is based on Chinese folklore. Ultimately, the main issue pulling down the score is the Minifigure count. A set of this size needs more characters.
Anyone looking for an unusual building experience that yields an interesting, out of the ordinary and attractive display model, one that's accompanied by a superb selection of minifigs, will find much to like here. Despite trying, I can't really find fault with it. I can grumble about the price and the fact it'll never be reduced because it's only available from LEGO directly, but that's about it.
I cannot recommend this set enough, it was a delightful looking set but more importantly, it's great fun to build. I love how elements are positioned and layered to give the mountain a very natural look. Plants, grass and watery sections are woven into the tapestry of the rocky section. The way the story of the Monkey King has inspired the various play features has also been greatly implemented.
