Lego has released the Swamp Speeder before, around the time Star Wars Episode 3 came out in the theaters. But, this one is a little bit bigger and better than the previous version. The turbine engine turns the front wheels, giving this 2-seat vehicle slight steering abilities. The gun turret up front steers with the wheels, and each cannon is a flick-fire missile. The vehicle also looks like it actually hovers due to the way the wheels are hidden underneath and inside, a cool feature. The Swamp Speeder comes with 5 minifgures: Jedi Barris Ofee, a Phase II Clone Trooper, a Super Battle Droid and two Battle Droids (This is one of the only recent releases that features the Super Battle Droid, by the way). If you're a fan of Star Wars, this particular vehicle, or Lego in general, you won't be disappointed with buying this set.
The set is nice. I like the minifigure selection, especially with the awesome Barriss figure. 5 figures are also nice. The build is good too and the play features work well. The price, however… not so great.
It's all about Barriss. The speeder is quite nice, and the steering and flick-fires make for playability I suppose, but on the whole it's not greatly exciting. I don't know how this fits in with the Clone Wars story, but unless they produce more Episode III-like sets this is going to look lonely on the shelf, if it doesn't get demolished before then. Barriss, on the other hand, will proudly join the other Jedi in my collection.
In the end, this really doesn't feel like a $30 set. Heck, this hardly feels like a $20 set. They really should have included a STAP for the Battle Droids, or maybe a mini-tank droid instead. Maybe if you's a big Clone Wars fan it will have more appeal, but to me it's a parts pack, and should be bought on clearance accordingly.
This is a set that appeals to fans of Barriss Offee, the swamp speeder, and collectors. Kids will have fun with the play features of this model while some AFOLs can find it as a good display item.
