Wooden Minifigure

Simply put, a wonderful piece of art. So bottom line up front... is this expensive for what it is... well, yes... however... will you get years of enjoyment, will you enjoy the aesthetics of it, will you enjoy the beauty of the wood and the contrast of the plastic hands... absolutely, yes to all. This is a wonderful item and one I'll certainly enjoy for many many years. If you're on the fence... and this is only one mans opinion, but go for it. I doubt you'll regret it. It will (as with me) be a guilty pleasure I'm sure and you'll constantly think... really... how much! But I bet you'll smile. Mine... pride of place on desk... hands adapted to hold fountain pen in one hand and ballpoint in the other... Have I smiled... yes. He's tucked just out of sight when on a video conference, a constant sentinel, pens ready for action... more less

Overall the figure is an immensely satisfying object. It's a hefty chunk of wood, pleasantly smooth to the touch, but with a noticeable grain. Fiddling about with the figure, the wrist joints offer a similar level of resistance to movement as regular minifigure hands, meaning they should be able to hold items at angles without drooping. Whilst it might have been nice to have more articulation, and some have complained about the mix of wood and plastic, I think the hands are a nice touch — giving a bit of poseability and more options for personalisation, but without simply creating a wooden facsimile of a normal minifigure. more less

There is no getting around that this is a costly item. It's aimed at high-end collectors, and those who like to show off their LEGO fandom is unique, different ways. For the same money you can get a decent sized LEGO set to build. But this is a impressive collectible and for those who can afford it, a unique piece of LEGO merchandise. I like how it can be used as a canvas to add your own creative flare, I personally won't be jazzing mine up beyond added some LEGO elements. But it will be intersting to see how people us it to make it their own. more less

The figure is reproduced with extreme fidelity to the original one. In fact, it is practically assembled with the same pieces that are molded in plastic, but modeled in wood. We must bear in mind that it is wood, so it may be that the figure is not perfect, but there perhaps lies part of the interest of the article. more less

Overall, the LEGO Originals Wooden Minifigure (853967) is a very high quality collectible that won't appeal to everyone especially due to its high price point. For those who are fans of LEGO and its history and can afford it, it may be worth picking up. As far as customizing it, that is totally up to you. For me personally, I won't be doing anything to it and will be leaving it in its original state as I'm not really a fan of altering it. more less
