It is a very cool set for collectors and it is fun to play with although it is very very fragile. I was playing with it and its wing fell off. If you have a young kid please be sure to tell them to be very careful with it. The wings are almost impossible to put back on. All in all a very cool set just fragile.
The orientation of the Droid socket, whilst a disappointment to many, has allowed for a more streamlined build, which is a vast improvement from 4502 and 6212 in particular. I'm a huge fan of the wings being built so that they are now the same from top and bottom viewpoints.
The new X-wing Starfighter is one of the best I've seen. Before I knew this set I was going to be released, I was thinking of purchasing the 2006 version. I'm glad I waited. The 2012 version is much more sleeker and more detailed than his predecessor.
An excellent rendition of the most iconic Star Wars vehicle and some superb minifigs to boot: the set deserves a place in everyone's collection!
After spending time with the 9493 X-wing Starfighter, swooshing it around and popping open the s-foils, it feels like an attempt to create the definitive LEGO X-wing. It's designed to be accessible to consumers in the way it's constructed and how it can be interacted with. Like the X-wings before, it offers builders choices and that's always a win. It's a fun and solid set, but by being accessible, it makes several compromises. It takes many design cues from the 4502 X-wing—though with refinement—and by doing so recreates many of those shortcomings.
