A must-have for every LEGO train fan, for people entertaining the idea of getting into LEGO trains, and for people who still don't know that they will become train fans after reading the book.
Whilst LEGO books are certainly more commonplace now than they were 10 years ago, they are also getting more niche and focused on particular areas of our beloved hobby. This is definitely a good thing, and whether you have a passing interest in locomotives or would like to delve deeper into the world of L-Gauge, pistons and pantographs then this book comes highly recommended as a must-have bible on all things LEGO trains.
I have received my copy and appreciate the effort put into it. The first part is a good primer for almost anybody working with LEGO and sort of reminds me of the Master Builder Academy, but condensed into the essentials. The history section is nice and allows people to see where LEGO trains have come from and identify various sets and parts from the 60's on. The part where various techniques for building trains is a boon to all and exceptionally detailed. I love how it's accomplished in the old school method of instructions. All told, an excellent work that will appeal to novices and seasoned builders alike.
If like the author you're a Lego train enthusiast with an eye for absolute attention to detail you will adore ‘The Lego Trains Book'. The techniques and tools within will make your own Lego models more realistic, more functional, and even more playable too. If like us you're a bit more of a casual trains fan, you may find a lot to like too.
My primary interest and enjoyment in this book was to see the historical overview of LEGO Trains and to see some ingenious building techniques in action. That said, this book is the definitive LEGO Train guide for anyone who wants to build a LEGO train, whether you are a complete beginner or experienced builder. It contains everything you need to know and indications on where to find everything else.
I've always admired LEGO Trains and have build a couple of the more recent sets but this book has shown there is so much more to them than those you can buy off the shelf. The creativity well can be poured into what essentially is the same sort of build is amazing and perfectly portrayed in The LEGO Train Book, Holger's knowledge and passion for the brick-built railways is clearly felt on every page.
