I'm afraid that a variety of factors prevent it from making sense for msot of the adults reading this article. The first concern is the cost—while x/y/z$ is reasonable price for a LEGO set, it's very costly for storage containers of these sizes. Secondly, the storage density is not as good as some other options due to the thick, hollow walls, and the inefficient design of the lid and base. And that's not to mention the issues we already called out about the lack of a handle, the lack of a tight-fitting lid, and the opaque mateial which makes it harder to see what's at the bottom of the box.

The LEGO IKEA BYGGLEK range comes in all-caps, shouting for attention within the LEGO storage market. It is a novelty, a toy and a semi-useful collection of storage boxes all rolled into one, with enough to both differentiate it from the competition and certainly pull in the interest of more than a few LEGO fans. It's by no means the only LEGO storage solution, for the quality or plainness of its finish the most premium, nor even the best value for practical storage purposes, but, for how it offers something so different in an attempt to work play into the equation, it's one of the more notable of recent years.

If the goal was simply to create some chunky, odd-sized hollow boxes to be used alongside System bricks then there would be no need for the IKEA collaboration. There's nothing particularly wrong with them, but they are billed as storage solutions and they're not doing anything you couldn't achieve by gluing a baseplate to some Tupperware — and to be honest that would be an improvement because you could at least seal it shut. I rate them for play, but for storage you may as well just use the cardboard box they're sold in.

I really love the BYGGLEK boxes, I think the pricing is extremely reasonable for the utility AND plastic that you get. With the biggest BYGGLEK box coming in at US$15 and the small bundle at US$10, if you regularly purchase $200+ LEGO sets, these are a no-brainer.

They have exceeded my expectations. For what they are designed -- for kids to store, build and display their LEGO -- they are perfect. They are not likely to be suitable as a sole storage solution for AFOLs, but they will have their uses. They'd be perfect for taking and storing a subset of your parts in your caravan or RV, for example.
