I really enjoyed putting this together. I am new to Lego. my nephew got me started playing with him hes 4 and i got hooked big time. i love the 3 in 1 creators its helping me learn how different pieces can be interchanged. Very playable set we make lots of cars and trucks for racing.LOL
My 6 year old son built this set and he loved it! He is trying hard to keep up with his older sisters when it comes to LEGO. Our oldest is a huge fan of the Speed Champion series and owns almost all of them. So the little brother was very excited to get this truck LEGO set that he could build by himself and show off.It took him a while and a couple instances of assistance, but in the end it is a simple build at just 163 pieces. The result is a cook monster truck with a special spring system that makes the truck perform like a monster truck. At first glance I thought the mini car was a lame addition, but it turns out my son really loves it. It's cute for sure. Also this is one of LEGO's 3-in-1 sets so it can be rebuilt into other options. Totally up to you, and it is fun for your child to have choices! Makes a great gift and is perfect for the younger builder who loves LEGO vehicles. We're happy with it!
This is a solid set in my opinion, offering a very pleasing primary model with great play value and an appealing colour scheme, along with a couple of decent secondary builds. The inclusion of a small car for the monster truck to crush is a really good move, although the truck itself begs for an axle swap. The set is also very reminiscent of the 4-wide Tiny Turbos product line, and would scale really well with cars from that range.
I wouldn't normally be attracted to sets such as this, I'm a sucker for big builds and sets with Minifigures. So it was refreshing to build a set of this smaller size and have to build it in three different ways. The lead model is the best of the bunch, but I still like the alternate builds. They don't feel like random creation using bricks intended for the lead build. It's only the finish line which is a little iffy, the actual alternate vehicles look great.
I was not that excited about this set looking at the box, but the engineering in the Monster truck saved the day. Simple, elegant, and could be adapted and used in other models.
