For those of you who have been collecting Christmas Gift with Purchases, 40416 Ice Skating Rink is a great new addition, and the fact that it's a minifigure-scaled set makes it a great addition to your LEGO Winter Village.
Unfortunately, and somewhat unavoidably, 40416 Ice Skating Rink should be in line for criticism not for what it is (which is a great little set and a high-quality GWP) but for the misfortune of the situation it has skated into.
I do like the use of the splat gears for the spinning function and it works fairly well. It's a nice addition to any winter scene that you may be creating this time of the year.
It's a sturdy, clever, attractive and desirable set, and in my opinion much better than the seasonal Christmas set LEGO is selling, 40424 Winter Snowball Fight.
