This was to be a gift for my 9 year old granddaughter. It appears something was torn off the box, although I have no idea what it could have been. There was no information in the box as to how to return the item. I certainly am not going to give this to my granddaughter.
My 4 year has not had more fun with Lego before than playing with this set. She's got lots of horse related sets from the Friends line, but this submarine set with the dolphins really hit the spark. She's done countless rescue missions and keeps expanding her storyline. As a Lego Parent/Fan it is a joy to watch.

For any aquatic fan, I can recommend this set for daydreaming about time in the ocean while you build. If you like LEGO Submarines -- there have been many -- then this is a refreshing version. Other themes will soon be out with their designs of subs and other ocean creations. Even if you don't apply stickers, or want to change out the coral tiles, this one is technically spot on.
As for the build experience, I have to admit I thought this was pretty typical - until I got to the last part of the build, the shipwreck. That part is a fun and enjoyable build, and I think the final version looks fantastic. I really like how the Friends designers are using the coral sea life to great effect in these sets, and for a small build the shipwreck looks quite good. The age range for this set is 6+, and I would recommend this set even for some of the older girls as the build will not be boring for them. I would recommend this set for the shipwreck alone!
