My 7 year old son absolutely loves Lego Trains. So, if you have a kiddo that loves Legos and loves trains, you'll love this set. What else can I possibly say? One thing I'll say as a dad; Don't waste you money on 'HO' trains. Lego makes trains so much more fun for younger kiddos. Lego trains are more expensive out of the gates, but trust me, they're so much better.
This is my first Lego train and I love it. I was a little worried after reading some other reviews of the set but I have to say I have had no negative experiences. The train drives very well and is fun to build. I also purchased some extra track which has given the train a chance to stretch its legs which is handy because you can drive it even faster that way without derailing. I'm only sad it has been discontinued.
Aesthetically, this set is a vast improvement over last year's in my opinion. It's not without its faults though, so train fans will have fun improving on it and making it more realistic. It's very playable, with all three wagons and the grab-crane providing a different play experience, which is probably of little consequence to AFOLs, but it obviously is for kids.
