This has been a tradition in our family for 5 years now. We buy a new one every year. My 8 year old son loves doing this and so does my 17 year old son, even though he won't admit it. It is one of our favorite Christmas traditions now and we look forward to September when the new advent calendar becomes available.

I liked this year's City Advent calendar a little more than previous years. There were fewer bricks, which made the value a bit worse. However, there were also more Minifigures. Additionally, there was more of a consistent theme and flow to the builds. I like that they lend themselves to a MOC project well.

We are only 10 days into the calendar but the kids are loving building the mini kits each day and then playing with with them. This has been a great purchase.

With the exception of the fireplace flames mentioned above, there's not much in the way of clever parts usage or building technique. Combined with spoiler-filled packaging, and you get a particularly lascklustre advent calendar set.
