I've said this before, but LEGO has continued to step up their game with the Collectible Minifigures theme and Series 15 (71011) does not disappoint. There are some minifigures that are more sought after than others but I see every single one of them having a place somewhere in the LEGO universe and in many MOCed themes.
The parts assortment is average. There are no visible accessory but the ballerina skirting is a highlight. It is made up of solid ABS plastic and fitted nicely at the legs. The hairdo is filled with glittering flowers which made the design much appealing.
So my overall thoughts are its a damn good series I think we only got 4 weak minifigures, the rest were high quality. My top 4 were the farmer, Animal Control Officer, shark suit guy and the wrestler. Each time you wonder what LEGO can come up with next and yet they continue to really impress me. I love new elements that can be used in my own creations and series 15 is packed with them.
With the Ballet and Ballerinas being such an integral part of Western and pop culture, the Ballerina is sure to be a desireable minifigure for LEGO fans with young daughters, ex-ballerinas or even aspiring dancers. It's such a unique minifigure that will most likely never make an appearance again and also makes for a very unorthodox “army builder" option, you know, if you've ever wanted to create a ballet studio or production.
The Ballerina is an ok minifig. The tutu was a new piece for my collection, and also makes her pretty easy to find by feeling the bag. Just look out for a flat, wavy oval. Her hair is a brown repaint of the geisha/samurai woman bun seen in earlier series, with some flowers added in. My wife really likes this one, and she does add a little flavour to my city.
The ballarina is probably the toughest minifigure for me to rate. On the one hand, it's a perfect representation of a ballerina complete with sparkly flowers in her hair and a nice ruffle piece for her skirt. On the other hand, the figure has no real accesories and the flowery hair piece virtually ruins her for parting out for other purposes. I guess it suffices to say that this figure isn't for me but I can't deny that it does its job for what it is.
It is worth mentioning that there are five female figures here to the eleven males, which is a fairly standard ratio now even though there are plenty of opportunities to make it an even split. The handicap guy is something fans have responded to well, pairing well with the upcoming wheelchair figure. The Shark Guy is pretty fun. We get a couple of animals. Everyone has their favorites, though most of the popular figs come with large odds in favor of fans. Basically, there is a little of something here for everyone, which is the best thing to be said about any Collectible Minifigure Series.
A pleasant enough figure, but the least exciting for me personally. The tutu is a new piece, but doesn't seem very practical since the figure can't put her arms down if she's wearing it. And I'm sure I'll be proven wrong later, but it seems like a single use part. The legs are subtly but effectively printed, giving her the classic ballerina shoes.
This series is shaping up quite nicely, with a broad range of excellent minifigs.
