This entire series is an outstanding release with minor rant such as the repeated inclusion of Unikitty design. Overall, I would said this is quite a remarkable release including fulfilling the distribution ratio with 3 complete sets in a sealed box. This alone, is a huge winner to ensure the distribution spread is done appropriately. Furthermore, I also noted with the minifigure neck marking increased the tightness and grip of the head and neck. This is actually great for CMFs which was previously lacking.
Overall The LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) series is a pretty interesting one with a number of characters that you wouldn't really expect to see in one of the sets. My favorite one is probably the Giraffe guy as well as the Wizard of Oz crew which are some popular ones among fans. There are also some questionable inclusions such as Emmet and Unikitty. Do we really need another of their variants even though they have been heavily featured in the sets and Unikitty in her series from last year?
The third and final costumed character from this lineup is Watermelon Dude. Always a refreshing guy, he's here to hand out watermelon slices and… advertise his watermelon cart? At just shy of four studs tall and wide, his fruit suit is a huge element that's dual-molded in dark pink and green, with a white stripe and black seeds printed on both sides. The watermelon wedge is a little shy of the 72° that would be 1/5 of a circle, dashing our hopes of putting multiples together for a full watermelon circle.
I found a few surprises looking through the set, especially with the UV: Bright Green seems to be particularly Bright. I wonder how other elements in this colour look?. Orange is inconsistent: some versions of Bright Orange Fluoresce, others do not. Likewise red: I have some fuselage elements joined together at home: some fluoresce, others don't! Some ‘Bright' colours don't seem to glow at all. Overall, it's a pretty diverse collection!
This unusual character is dressed as a slice of watermelon which seems odd, although I like the bright colour scheme. The costume is decorated with some black seeds and there is a gap so you can view the double-sided head. Unusually, this includes two identical expressions but one side is wearing sunglasses while the other is not.
