Let me start by stating that I am not a true Ninjago fan but do enjoy building the sets. This one was no different. It took a little longer than I anticipated but that could be a good thing (not an easy build). I really like the new design that enables the swords to be held in the hands without needing to be connected. There were not many 1x1 pieces which made the build go faster. The end result resembled the photo no the box exactly. I look forward to the next set.
I'm pretty impressed with this set. Other than that sad excuse for a sword stand, there's nothing about this set that feels cheap. There are no obvious places that feel like LEGO cut pieces to lower their cost. Speaking of cost, at $70 for 968 pieces this set comes in at only 7.23 cents per part. And there are some really nice pieces in there, too. You get new minifigures, printed parts, hard to find colors, scarce elements, unique elements, and even some new printed parts. The build is fun and involved, the model looks great, and it has great play value. Yeah, this ticks all the boxes for me.
Aside from being a good build and a fantastic looking robot Samurai warrior (what's not to like?), you're getting a lovely bundle of parts. The debatably useful measure of price per piece is 6.7p / 7.2c / 0.07€. Note there are not an excessive number of tiny parts bumping up that total. Furthermore there's quite a few new parts and a hefty number of rare and recoloured elements, some in good quantities too. So just on paper it's pretty good value in my opinion, and especially so if you can get it on a reduction.
If you like big mechs, this is a great set, with lots of inspiration and technique to enjoy.
