I am happy with this set. As someone with little shelf space left, its small stature is actually a good thing for me. By no means is it a must-buy for fans, nor will it be remembered years from now, but I still think its a solid vehicle that lives up to what it is supposed to be.
I was at lego shop recently and was simply amazed by this model they had only the one left for display and not for sale. So I looked around the lego shop on line and it was also gone. Finally bought it from amazon. I was simply astonished when I saw that this was rated as 3.5 both here and amazon. This is a truly beautiful set! the final build quality and sturdiness is amazing! it has multiple retracting hatches: (*) 3 in the back side that features hidden SDAP, weapon rack and a repair droid. (*) Retractable missile launchers and the droid driver cap in the top part of the MTT (*) Finally Beautiful front rail with 6 droids in it. I'd say it would be nicer to have managed maybe more droids stackable there, I think actually 10 droids would be possible without problems. Anyway it does not take from the beauty of the set unless you are totally into accurate representation of the film. (+) Fully rotateable and adjustable front guns! The only things I did not like very much is that the SDAP launcher can be operated only when the weapon and repair droid rack are retracted. Retractable top hatch on the driver droids platform (like in older set) would be awesome too. And finally, it would be nice to have couple of extra panels on the lower front side behind the plasters because otherwise you can see the "guts" of the model from the slits (which are kind of large) Otherwise its a great set and I prefer it in every way to the older 2008 model! I payed 106 USD for mine (amazon) I wish I had gotten it here for the 72 bucks that would be truly worth every cent spent. 106 is a bit on the pricey side but I advise go and buy now before the prices skyrocket . Because the build is so solid I am sure that it will withstand rigorous play with kids. I am having lots of fun playing with it and it holds like a rock. (probably would be hard to take a part when I start to mod it) PS: looks great next to ATT
A really nice model to build and also for play. The MTT carries troops, a STAP (recon vehicle), a repair droid, guns and a pilot. Each of those is properly stored in a place of the tank. Although it could have more droids and some people criticize its capacity, if you search online you can find suggestions on how to modify it to be able to carry more droids. The jedis are nice too, but I like more the Naboo guard for it uniqueness, even though those minifigures feel a bit out of place in this set.-
LEGO could have done so much more with this set. Increase the price to give it the piece count it deserved, and you get a better set. Include Gungans to fight the thing instead of two Jedi, and give them some stuff instead of the pointless play features, and you get a better set. Maybe spend a few minutes covering up all of the ugly gaps and lazy building, and you get a better set. There was so much potential here, and apparently LEGO didn't go for any of it.
