I got this for my 7 year old. We actually take the magnet apart and he uses it as a stand alone mini figure. It's a great substitute if Lego doesn't have the figure you want or it's more expensive.

I purchased the darth vader minifigure magnet for my 4 yr old son. In about 25 minutes I removed the minifigure from the magnet and now he has a darth vader mini figure, which was a fraction of the price that I could find one alone for. The back of the figure has a small hole after removal, as does the cape, but if it bothers you additional capes can be purchased online.
