The worst thing about this set is that it didn't happen earlier, when I was a teen reading Tales of the Bounty Hunters and Tales from Jabba's Palace. Regardless, this is one of my favorite Star Wars sets produced. It represents what it's supposed to very well, has tons of basic plates, bricks and slopes, and delivers exceptional minifigures in spades. Jabba is a huge improvement over his old iteration, with a great face print and new articulation. Having Salacious Crumb by his side and Bib Fortuna over his shoulder creates a feel straight from Return of the Jedi. I like the assortment of tan pieces and will aid greatly in any Tatooine building project, especially with the roof pieces. That said, the price is extremely steep at this piece count and the set gets much better if you can hold out for a sale and get it under $100. At $120 MSRP, it's not worth it except for the most insatiable fans.
It's a 'good' set with 'great' figures. In my opinion, a great addition to any OT collection especially if you don't have the original, a must buy if you can find it on sale.
Jabba's Palace is a must have set. The coloring as a whole has a very deserty feel to it and is perfect for the planet of Tattooine. The set took me about 1 hour to build and wasn't redundant to put together. The overall feel of the palace just looks perfect. Plus, you get a lot of minifigures that are related to the scene in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
I am absolutely delighted with this set overall. It is a model of real quality and you can tell that a lot of time and effort has been taken over designing this vast set. There are numerous fantastic features and the minifigs are incredible. This model can be used with set 9496, Desert Skiff, and the minifigs from that wonderful set can be added to here if you wish which really adds to the playability. From a play perspective, this set is hard to beat with so many functions, but for display this set is also amazing, there is loads of detail and it looks good from the inside or the outside!
I would suggest buying it for minifigure collectors, parts monkeys or those who would display something like this. The only way I would suggest skipping this one is if you're just looking for a fun set with a lot of playability. It simply can't hold its own in that department.
