Beasts from Bricks: Amazing LEGO Designs for Animals from Around the World

The animals in this book are works of art. I don't think it is realistic to build these animals unless you either have a ton of well organized specialty pieces or are very experienced at ordering bricks. I bought it for Christmas and wanted to be sure I had all the pieces so that I could build a couple animals with my son. It took me hours on Bricklink to order pieces for two animals, cost $55, and I had to order from four companies. All the sellers on Bricklink have different rules about minimum total orders and even minimum average price per lot. Ordering directly from lego takes a few weeks. A few parts in the book are not numbered correctly, so I couldn't order them. This book would be much better if there was also an option to buy a set with all the pieces needed to build the animals plus a budget set option with everything the same color so you could reuse more pieces. This book is about the instructions rather than presenting beautiful images of the models. The execution is spot on, with clear pages and a variety of interesting beasts to build. This should be added to the bookshelf for LEGO fans looking to get inspired by the natural world. more less

The 15 models in the book are fun and use some clever building techniques that will please young builders and adults alike. I especially like the sense of character and movement that Ekow has brought to each of the animals. more less
