I got this to replace the old version that was in our school clinic. All the kids love looking through it while they're waiting for their parents to come pick them up. It's a hit!
As a fan of the LEGO brand and now as an Ambassador, I have made it aim to learn as much about LEGO as I can, which is why I love these sort of books. It's an information and visually pleasing account of the world's best-loved brick. DK have built upon their extensive knowledge of LEGO, from past books and included plenty of updated information. My only grumble is I'd of like to have seen a little more focus on the minifigures, what with it being the 40th anniversary, past editions of the LEGO Book have come packed with an additional book called Standing Small. This could have been integrated into the book a little more or be included as a separate book either packaged with this title or published on its own.
The LEGO® Book is a fun read, but it is not mind blowing information that you can't find in numerous other sources, or on the internet. I am still waiting for that defining LEGO® book. I like the commemorative brick, but it would have been cooler to get a Minifigure too. It makes a nice coffee table book though.
It is impossible to cover everything A-Z on LEGO within any single book, but if you had to just get one book to enjoy the 60-year lifespan from cover to cover in an overview, this would be one that you'd want to go for. It would be especially useful if you're new to the LEGO scene or if you're just coming back from a hiatus from what LEGO fans call the ‘dark ages' and need a quick re-introduction. Though I've only been an avid LEGO fan for the past 3 years or so, it was pleasant to see a thing or two that I had not seen before. And if you're just after that exclusive brick, well, I guess you don't have much of a choice.
