I love the colour combination of purple and black as the primary colours. Much better than orange and black, which tends to be overused around this season. As a town builder, this is a great set for inspiration on how to beautify your door fronts.
The set is adorable. However, I made the mistake of purchasing without reading the dimensions. The picture made the item appear much larger than it actually is. The price suited the picture so I didn't even think to read the detail. I have to own my mistake but I would not have made the purchase if I realized how small the set is.
Overall, LEGO has done a great job so far with this year's Seasonal sets with the Valentine's Day Dinner (40120) and the Painting Easter Egss (40121) sets but I feel they took a step backwards with the Trick or Treat (40122) set. The setting is pretty plain and the minifigures are subpar, especially the girl trick-or-treater.
The finished set is nice. I can't say that I like it as much as the previous seasonals, but it works for the theme. I like the spooky little tree. The front door is fine, but it lacks to polish of the other vignettes. The others all worked from either side, but this one just feels unfinished from the back. I'm happy with the elements, and these will make a nice little price pack if any of them survive the holiday to get marked down. Otherwise, there isn't much to get excited about here.
It is a neat set but I don't think it reaches the high standard of the other two for the following reasons: The front door vignette is okay, but nothing special. The tree feels like it has been added at the last minute and does not form part of the main vignette. The skeleton does not really count as a minifigure. The torso is unsuitable for the young girl. Despite these issues I still recommend you pick it up if you can, particularly if you've been collecting the others.
