I was fortunate enough to receive a LOT of Lego this Christmas. This LeMans-style 24-Hour Racer was among the best sets I've ever assembled - and I've been a Legomaniac for about 60 years! This was a fun and challenging build that I put together over a weekend. The actual total build time was probably about 8 hours. I was amazed by the number of mechanized features, including the working gull-wing doors and engine compartment cover. I'm definitely going to get the 8293 Power Functions kit to power up everything. I just wish there was a kit that would let me convert this car to a fully functioning radio-controlled model. The play value of this kit is very high; an R/C racing add-on would only enhance it further. Please, Lego, may I have some more?
This was my first big Technic Lego set. I'd drooled over these as a kid and now that I'm all grown up I decided to take the plunge and buy one for myself. It probably took me 6-7 hours to put this together. There was a lot of tricky stuff, but I enjoyed the challenge. The engineering and design put into this kit absolutely blew me away. I'm already saving up for my next big technic set splurge. The working suspension and steering bits are so nice that it's a shame this thing doesn't have a motor.
The build of the A-model is outstanding. It is fairly simple, but since it's so clean, I really enjoyed it a lot. I think the build should be entertaining, which doesn't mean it needs to be a real challenge. And let's be honest; when is a build really challenging?! The rear suspension is a good example of why I liked the build. It's very simple, yet very effective. Works like a charm. The same goes for the other functions in both models. And the star of the entire show can be found in the B-model. How's that for a surprise?!
In many ways, this is more like the old Racers line than a true Supercar, and if you can accept it on those terms and like the look of it, you'll enjoy it.
If you're a fan of Technic cars you'll love this one, primarily because there's been nothing like it before. It's not as sophisticated as others that have gone before, e.g. it's not 4WD and there's no transmission gearbox but nevertheless it packs in enough functionality to make it an interesting build and a pleasing finished model. The design is not perfect by any means, but it's a good representation of the vehicle it's supposed to be.
This Racing Car looks great (except the side-on view, that just looks weird!), I'm not sure if it's supposed to be based on any specific model? I like that it has a very low clearance as a super car should. The suspension is hard but probably needs to be harder for something so low to the ground.
