This took a bit more time for my 4th grader, as he had to go back when he assembled some components one step-off and that did not become evident until much later in the process. The instructions were clear on what he needed to do, but his over confidence got the best of him. In the end, a huuuge satisfaction for a job well done and for a great truck to play with. My kid loves these bigger trucks and bigger Technic builds because after doing them once he goes after motorizing them - a couple of small motors and a step motor from the power functions will eventually get this moving on its own. My kid likes this very much and keeps studying on how to further improve it - which is what one wants to see with these building exercises...

This was a great set, my second technic set on a large scale, my first was the Le Mans car. This set really made me enjoy technic LEGO, and now I am building the Mack Anthem. I was amazed by how well the double steering feature works it makes for a much more tight turning circle for a truck like this. Not only does the steering work really well, so does the extinguisher arm. One thing that could be improved on this is bags. I know most technic sets don't have bags that are numbered, but I think it would be an incredible useful thing, and if you have built or are building the Mack Anthem you would of noticed how much better it is for bags to be in sets, it also gives you good times to stop and do it the following day which is what I do as I don't have the time in the day to do it all at once. Overall a good set and I would recommend buying as a beginner technic builder or an experienced one, whatever you are you will get value for the price you paid.

Fun to build, patience is required but the end result is a great vehicle with cool functions. Perfect for Lego Technic fans.

This is a decent set. No more, no less. It doesn't have many interesting parts, nor does it have very unique features. The steering mechanism is done nicely and you can properly operate the extinguishing arm, although the nozzle needs to be operated manually. The front nozzle also needs to be operated manually. The gearbox to switch between raising/lowering the arm and rotating the arm is very simple, but works like a charm. It's a nice introduction to a simple gearbox. Since all kids love fire trucks, this would make a very nice birthday present.

It's a great looking model but one that's lacking any real functionality. The steering mechanism is clever, and... actually that's pretty much all really. The gearbox is superfluous other than to make it possible to motorise the arm movement with a single motor. If this were a first half of year 'basic' Technic model I'd be very satisfied with it but as a second half of year one, which we expect to be complex and sophisticated, I'm a little disappointed, although it's not a bad set by any means.
