The heavy duty forklift has been our largest Technic set to date. We have really been enjoying the added challenge of the Technic sets and were ready to graduate from the smaller builds to something larger. I really like how the build keeps my little guy engaged with the working gears. The set engineering is fantastic and comes together nicely. I also really like how the Technic sets are sturdy enough to play with afterwards. Unlike a lot of our LEGO builds, I don't have to put them together again at the end of the day.Highly recommend for anyone looking for a mid-sized Technic build, a little more of a LEGO challenge or who's child has been asking for a “real forklift" for six months straight.
This was a great model to build. It had the right amount of gears and motion parts to keep you on your toes. I like to combination of yellow, blue and black pieces. Very realistic. Upon completion, my grandchildren ( and me) enjoyed playing with it. I brought out my other construction Technic models so we could all enjoy the moment. I bought a second model to either have 2 forklifts and to build the tow truck.
This awesome vehicle measures 7 inches long and has some great features. There's a detailed driver's cab, orange warning beacon, large tires and high-reach forks. Builders watch Pistons pump in the engine as it rolls forward and can steer into position by operating the rear-wheels and maneuver the forklift under the palette and container marked hazardous.
This is a very nice smaller-midsize Technic set. It has a good list of realistic functions, the mechanisms are interesting and elegant, and they work well, giving a satisfying play experience. It would be a great first set for someone new to Technic, while the serious collector will likely want to pick one up. It makes a decent parts-pack, although perhaps a little expensive.
At this price point, getting basically two proper models is great value. All in all I really do like this set. Nothing extraordinary, but if will definitely make for a nice gift. Downside for AFOLs is that most of us will be able to make this with our own inventory, since it doesn't contain any new parts.
The Heavy Duty Forklift is the perfect introduction to the LEGO Technic range. The set includes a degree of ‘engineering' but it's not a overly complex build. There's not intricate gear system, which would definitely overwhelm first time Technic builders. Yet there is still a enough of the build to offer the unique Technic experience.
There's a lot to like about 42079 Heavy Duty Forklift. It's a neat and compact model that looks great. It features all the functions you'd expect to find in a model of a fork-lift, although not all of them work as well as you would hope. The mast tilting mechanism, in particular. Luckily it's easily fixed.
My thoughts with this set were quite similar to 42080 Forest Harvester: the idea is nice, the set is good looking, but what should be just as important – the functions – are far from fulfilling.
