Our 7 year old put this together in less than an hour, but the motor (pull back) mechanism makes it extra fun to play with. Typical high-quality Lego toy!
I purchased this set because I have been curious about the pull back system but have been unable to find the correct model for me. This is it. I took my time with the few stickers and the build came out simply spectacular. It it a post modern look and its size make it a great display piece, however I must confess to using it for a while to race around the house. I took off the front few pieces and it even jumped a ramp that I had. This is a wonderfully enjoyable set, offering a variety of different things to build. This is the set to introduce someone to the " Technic" line. The instructions are clear, the pieces large, and the build is symmetrical. It is almost twice the size of a Lego city police car. This makes it easy and fun to enjoy the experience of the build. This is a great set.
Being a pull-back racer, I didn't expect any functionality besides pulling it back and letting it go. What I do expect, is a decent design. I am very disappointed with the design though. Especially the use of panels, combined with the decreased part count. This set screams profit optimization.
The Technic fan in me is not convinced about these sets. They don't add much beyond pullback motors and some loose parts. The kids that helped me build the sets have a completely different opinion. To them these are the best LEGO Technic sets they have ever seen.
These pull-back racers are a lot of fun. They are very robust and stand up to quite a lot of rough play. I am unconvinced that they represent great value for money. The static price point of $19.99 hides the fact that there are fewer parts in the box for these two sets as compared to the two similar themed models from three years earlier.
Overall, 42091 Police Pursuit makes for an excellent pull back toy, which I am sure will give hours of fun to children of a certain age, but older builders and collectors will be left wanting something more by the building experience and overall design – especially given the £17.99 price tag.
