C'mon, you know you want to buy this becasue of the hot rod build. :) I am about halfway through the build and really like this set. The ‘vette is OK, but I wish LEGO would release a giant sized hot rod set. I have been buying several LEGO sets because the alternate builds are cooler than the front of box ones. I've been playing with them for forty years and still having fun.Update: Finished both builds. My opinion is that this kit was designed by the accountants at LEGO. It should have been marketed as a retro hot rod kit at $25-30. Then there should have been a larger $350 super detailed large Corvette kit released in the style of their big Bugatti kit. Instead, you get the most underwhelming ‘vette build ever and an awesome, but overpriced hot rod. Total missed opportunity on both ends. I still think the hot rod is great though. ;)
I haven't built Lego since I was in my early teens in the early 2000s. My fiancee are always doing puzzles in the evenings as a way to unwind after a whole day of work and playing with their kids - so I thought I might try and build some Lego to do something else than sit infront of the TV all night. I was not dissappointed - I had totally forgot how much fun it is! As a person who quite hates building IKEA-furniture I was abit worried I wouldn't like it, but man, time just flew by. This set is perfect for someone like me - Having build quite alot of Lego in their youth trying to get back into it. Challenging enough to not make it boring, but not too hard. Pricing is on point, I feel like I got a great experience for the price. Build time was about 4 hours for me, but since I used the wrong pieces for the engine part at the start of the build, at least an hour was spend de-assembling and using the right parts... I can't wait for my next set to arrive so I can start building again. (The only "problem" I have is that my 2,5yo now won't let the finished set out of his sight, so I'm quite sure I will have to rebuild it soon since the odds are quite low that he will drop it and I have to do a scavenger hunt all over the house for the pieces - but hey, then I can try out the Hot Rod-build with this set!)
I love everything about this model. Given the scale, the designer really made this model stand out. And for 40 euros you get a very fun little model. That boils down to only 6,5 eurocent per part, which is cheap. This is the perfect gift if you are looking for a reasonably priced Technic set. Two big thumbs up for this set! I sure hope we get more sets like this, which obviously is to be expected.
I really had a blast building this set, right from the first step to the last. The final model looks fantastic, sleek and is a great representation of one the world's finest supercars. It is also one of the most photogenic sets I have had the pleasure to shoot this year. For seasoned builders, there is a lot of enjoyment to be had with this set and for younger builders it will be on the right side of challenging as well as being an amazing introduction into the world of engineering. It is a great piece to have on display and with a fairly modest price tag this set comes highly recommended.
42093 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is an impressive model on the whole, although its comparatively small scale has imposed some notable limitations upon the design. For instance, the nose appears realistic when viewed from certain angles but a number of important details have been omitted. Moreover, the tyres are disproportionately small which detracts from the vehicle's appearance in my opinion.
I really liked building the Corvette, and I really like displaying it too. It's great for someone who can't afford the larger Technic cars but still really likes the design of LEGO cars. You get to dip into the model car hobby while still building. And if you take it apart, there are some great orange Technic parts to add to your collection.
