This set has quite a lot of features such as the two firing water cannons and hidden cabin for the crew. The cabin below is a little low and the mini figures are unable to stand up when the control bridge is in place, however this is only a minor detail and does not effect overall play with the product. The boat hull is the same as the Deep Sea model and is quite large which really makes the set look impressive. The boat floats well in water and still maintains its functionality when in the water. The set is a little overpriced but the overall play experience is good.
I love LEGO almost as much as my son and we have probably done 1/4 of the city series. This one has some great detail (the crew quarters, the inside of the lighthouse) but was overall the most disappointing kit ever purchased. I think the one piece hull design makes the whole thing look really tacky and cheap but I suppose that is subjective. The main problem is that the hull arrived terribly warped so the whole boat is just not very stable. The flat grey plates don't snap in properly to the hull so everything wobbles. I have an email in to LEGO to get a replacement and we'll consider it a lesson to the kid that sometimes things are disappointing. My other irritation is that the boom part is somewhat unstable. Overall I'd say, unless your kid really wants a boat, skip this build and go with one of the many other great kits in the city series.
Children will enjoy using the LEGO City Fire Boat along with their imaginations to pretend they are on a rescue mission. There is plenty of play with this set but it can also be combined with other sets in the LEGO City line.
