Its a great set to make and match up with he rest of the series. It is sturdy once constructed and has a number of functions and quirky features and ideas all hidden inside. The build was fun, if just a little quick for the price. The mountain comes in a few large pieces, so eliminates the need (want ) to build up the mountain. I features a jumping piece and all together is a lot of fun. If you have collected and completed the rest of the series as I have you will find yourself sitting with a LOT of the lava rocks, but its a ll good fun, so maybe I can find a new or other use for half of them.
This set is a lot of fun because once built there is a lot of play value. A lever on the volcano makes it erupt which is a great action detail that kids can recreate again and again. The workers are all outfitted in their special lava resistant suits for safety and there is no shortage of creative storytelling with this playset. This toy encourages roleplay, and helps reinforce motor skills and focus as kids follow the very detailed LEGO instructions for the build. The construction kit creates the volcano, helicopter, lab, boulder cracker, and other vehicles so kids can really utilize their imaginations.
This was one of many tried-and-true Lego purchases for grandsons over many years. This set was for the youngest one's birthday and ran into a major snafu with the USPS. It was more than a matter of the arrival date being delayed three times; the recipient would no longer be living at the mailing address by the third projected date! Belandaria (the third party seller) went way above and beyond to troubleshoot the problem, and did so across the July 4th holiday weekend! Special thanks to Suzanne who made it all work out! This nana was very impressed and very grateful!
