Titanium Dragon

The Titanium Dragon is a set that was released as part of the "tournament of elements" line and has a nice new style for the Ninjago dragons. The first thing to note would certainly be this dragon's head which is brick-built! I believe this is the second brick-built head that has appeared in this theme (not exactly sure) but it looks, um...unique? The head has a very different feel to it with a more boxy approach however I think it still turned out quite impressive considering that Lego had to make sure it wasn't to sophisticated for kids to put together. The head is then connected onto a small mixels ball joint which is then connected to a large/regular ball joint which is then attached to the body-so yeah, the head/neck region has a lot of articulation. Moving on to the body, the saddle is very nice for this dragon and I love the use of the metallic silver pieces on the wings. The tail uses the mixels ball joints and has a frosty tip-achieved with a cool piece that has a white and blue color combination. The legs for this one I'm not all that thrilled about. The front legs are all fine and good with the exception of the big metallic silver piece that tends to get in the way. The rear legs, however, are a little small and I don't like the use of the large feet! The front feet are small and the back feet are huge! This doesn't look good to me at all and I would have preferred that the feet were all the same small size. One last thing to mention about the dragon is that it has another place with articulation. Shortly behind the wings there's a ratcheted joint-this move by lego was smart and effective (especially in stop-motions)! The "anacondrai" in this set receive a small defense with a few weapons and a chain-bola launcher. The outpost also seems to be guarding a key-this was fairly well done. In the episodes, Cole has to swipe the key from Zugu to save Zane but in this set, Zane is trying to get the key even though he already escaped...maybe this key is to unlock the prison in the "Enter The Serpent" set? The minifigures in this set are Chop'rai, Clouse, and Titanium Zane-all of which are good to get and two are even exclusive (this is the cheapest way to get Chop'rai too). So lets move on to the final rating: I'll say a 4/5. This set could have gotten a 5/5 but the price killed it a little. (The "Master Wu Dragon" just came out and it has the same retail price, 5 minifigs (2 more than this set), and the dragon, tea farm, and possessed rickshaw therefore that set would be the better deal). The titanium dragon is a great new build, the minifigures are all really good, and as for the anacondrai outpost, well, I'll just add it to my "Enter The Serpent" set for extra defenses. Beside the dragon's aesthetic that I am maybe the only one to dislike - the set is very playable, and Ninjago sets are often seen with an interesting discount. So in my opinion I would say that with a lower price why not - else better add some extra money and go for the fantastic 70749. more less
