Bionicle is back, and with many new sets and figures, the reviews are coming in. The Protector of Earth is my favorite protector so far. He features a Star Drill, Throwing Knives, and a pellet launcher. His mask pops off when you move the gear on his head. He has black/silver armor and translucent purple in his upper arms and legs. It gives him an especially great look in bright light which shows off his color scheme. 2 of his weapons function with gears as usual. He is a very durable figure and will very likely survive falls onto the carpet or down the steps. Pros: He is very detailed, especially the mask. His weapons are unique and very creative. His Pellet blaster can fire the pieces with a very long range. The skull spider that comes in the set is very cool as well. He comes with extra pellets in case you lose some. He is an overall great figure for playing with. Cons: The armor pieces on his chest limit the articulation in the arms. His mask pops off often with just a touch on his brain. The pellets that he fires are very small studs that fire very far and will most likely be lost down a vent or drain. Another con is that it is extremely easy to activate the stud launcher. A single turn will launch a pellet that will most likely not be found. The skull spider does not fit around his head all the way. Overall, I love this figure and suggest that you go and get one yourself. I am so far loving Bionicle and really want to see what they come up with next! Bye!
The constructed figure has multiple points of articulation in the arms and legs, and comes with two weapons. One is the star drill that lets him bore through any terrain and the other is a gattling gun in his chest that allows him to battle the ominous spider foe. The figure also has a dual-tone mask that pops off when you press the trigger, and it comes with a silver skull spider enemy figure.
My son still loves this Lego brand and only place left to find them is here. Easy to put together. Fun story-line and wonderfully made since its Lego.
I feel like the Protectors offer a great value by constraction standards. For ten dollars you get at least 66 pieces, including a fully armed figure and a Skull Spider for them to fight. The figures themselves are a substantial size in spite of their cutesy, slightly child-like proportions, boasting diverse physiques and even more diverse weapons. And the sets have no shortage of play value thanks to the pop-off masks and rapid-fire shooters.
I really like the Protector of Earth. I love black and trans dark purple, and his overall design is extremely unique with the gatling gun chest. He has plenty of articulation thanks to his bone structure, and the set functionality doesn't get in the way of this. While I do wish his weapons had been a different story, they are nice for what they are and are easy to change later on if you feel the need. I would highly recommend this one, and in fact he ties with the Protector of Stone as my favorite.
70781 follows the pattern that's been set thus far by the Bionicle 2015 sets: it's a solid product with more pros than cons, and it upholds the legacy of its predecessors while also offering new and exciting pieces and features. While the Gatling gun feature feels a bit too micro for the constraction class, and you're prone to lose all of its ammunition within a few days if you play at your highest level, at least its ammo is easy to replenish. 70781 complements 70789 Onua Master of Earth very well; I'd recommend getting your hands on both of them.
This set was kind of a letdown. On paper, it seems great. Purple pieces, cool drill, elemental Earth character. Normally these are safe bets. Unfortunately, this set seems to suffer from a case of "okay, what haven't we done yet?" It's a shame too because this had a lot of potential, but they just missed the mark with the design.
Like Onua, the Protector of Earth is easily the best of its fellows. This is due in large part to the full range of limb motion, which makes it one of if not the most playable and poseable small sets you can get. A few elements stick out against the otherwise harmonious blend of trans purple and black, but these are easily looked past, and should be, since Korgot boasts an interesting, solid build, and makes a fantastic partner to Onua.
