I have enjoyed playing with Lego Mario – and it is far more of a play experience than a building experience. As a build, I don't consider that it is overly exciting, until you set out to construct your own level. This is where the work between Nintendo and LEGO really stands out: the LEGO spirit is strong in this set. more less

My Mario obsessed son just celebrated his 6th birthday. We came across this set in the LEGO store and I immediately knew this would be the perfect gift. There's also many expansion sets which we were able to tell family members about. One of the biggest complaints was that there was no instruction booklet and that everything was on the app. We actually preferred this as it was easy to follow and nice to be able to move the picture around to see the underneath and sides of what the pieces should look like. It was also very interactive which made it fun. My son was able to build the entire set by himself with very minimal help from me. My son has had this set for about a week and he loves it! He's now played with the sets he got for his birthday everyday this week. His attention to detail and the way he followed instructions were so impressive! I thought for sure he would have given up shortly after starting. Yes they're a bit expensive but it's LEGO. Great and fun product for his age! more less

When the first sets were revealed I was a little unsure. But I'm always open to new things and having played around with the Starter Course I like the direction both LEGO and Nintendo have chosen. The creative melding of building and gaming is nicely captured. I fully understand why people are not particularly keen on the visual route taken with the LEGO Super Mario line, but this isn't meant to be something you can whack on a shelf to display. Sure you could elements of the set to create something like that, that's part of the fun of LEGO bricks. It wasn't what I was expecting from LEGO and Nintendo working together, but in the same breath, it's exactly to be expected. When has Nintendo ever gone down the safe route? more less

Despite my enduring reservations about its price, 71360 Adventures with Mario undoubtedly offers substantial play value and has exceeded my expectations. The range of interactions is outstanding and the sensors are notably reactive, detecting motion and scanning panels very quickly. Moreover, I like how Bowser Jr. and the Goomba have been designed, combining the angular aesthetic associated with LEGO and their original appearances. more less

The main draw in this set is Mario himself. The figure is excellent, charming and will have anyone smiling as he reacts to different stimuli in comical ways. Unfortunately, the game he is part of does not feel great value for money, as it is too simple to have any longevity. It is still worth considering the starter pack to get a taste of something fun and unique in the LEGO range, but for most fans it will probably be everything they need from the Super Mario theme. more less

I can't express in words the disappointment I feel with this theme. I'm not one to be protective or dramatic over things like movies or video games, I'm just not a passionate enough person. But Mario is something else, it's in my blood. Sitting looking at my Mario LEGO sets made me feel like that blood had been tainted. It's not because the sets are bad, not all Mario games are winners, it's more because of the missed opportunity of how great this theme could've been. Nothing hurts more than a missed opportunity, that knowledge that you'll never truly know what could've been. At least they didn't do this with Zelda! more less
