I always like to start out my reviews by stating the recommended MSRP, which in this case is $15. If this pack costs anything higher than that, just be patient or give Lego a call and buy from them. This pack is fantastic, and the figures are really awesome, but don't overpay needlessly for them! At $15 this is a great value, and the included turret adds to the figures in a good way (I don't feel that it's a needless novelty). The Executioner figures have great looking little axes, the Shuttle Pilot's helmet mold looks fantastic to me, and the Crew figure looks as good as it always has. If you are a FO fan, or looking for a gift for your child, this set would definitely be a hit. I would recommend it on its own merit, as well as for an addition to the Battle of Crait set, to heighten the scale of that set's battle.
Who could have expected that it would be so easy to get the First Order Stormtrooper Executioners - the latest addition to the First Order's forces. Although it's a battle pack and the laser cannon is a fun build perfect for role-play, it's really the minifigures that make this set so desirable. The Stormtrooper Executioners are amazing minifigures and their helmets have new printing to include the black stripe on one side along with the thinner, more angular mouthpiece. However, it would have been even better if the arms were dual-moulded as only the shoulder armour is black in the film: not the entire arm. The laser axes themselves look pretty good, especially at this scale. The First Order Gunner is a common minifigure but the Shuttle Pilot is only available in the much more expensive First Order Star Destroyer. This is one of the best battle packs yet due to the quality of the minifigures included. It's a perfect way to add to any The Last Jedi or Star Wars collection!
I'd say this is definitely not a bad set, but not a standout in the battle packs that LEGO has made. Somewhere in the middle.
In all, this isn't a classic battle pack. It's not the first First Order-themed battle pack nor is it the best designed one. If we really are going down this route of continuous First Order battle packs, further variety in the minifigure heads included (such as a female First Order officer minifigure) could add more appeal where the uniforms are starting not to. That aside, the minifigures included in 75197 First Order Specialists Battle Pack will still be enough to pull most of us in again, even if the build won't keep anybody occupied for very long, and the concern for future battle packs increases.
If you're planning on creating an epic diorama MOC based on the latest entry in the Star Wars saga, then these Battle Pack are a great way to boost your armies, if you just want to add a couple of cool new minifigures to your collection then its great for that as well. The Laser Cannon Turret may only take a few minutes to build but has some cool elements and play features.
75197 First Order Specialists Battle Pack is not the most impressive Battle Pack of recent years but I am very pleased with it. The First Order Stormtrooper Executioners look fantastic and the First Order Shuttle Pilot is a perfect addition to the set given his rarity. In addition, the laser cannon turret fits with the design of existing First Order equipment and offers reasonable play value as well as a selection of interesting pieces.
