On the whole, I'm not a fan of this set. I like it a lot less than when I first saw the sets. The minifigure selection is good but I feel one more minifigure should've been included, maybe someone like padawan Ahsoka. The build is too oversized in my opinion and does not have a very good speeder bike feel due to its clunkiness. Furthermore, the price is too high and 75200 offers superior value.
So first, I want to say this only appeared in The Clone Wars TV series when Grievous was invading Florrum if memory serves me right. If not, then I don't know where it came from. secondly, why is this $29.99 and not $19.99? It only has 157 pieces and two minifugres and to be honest, not a very impressive vehicle from the universe of Star Wars. Since the minifgures are the most valuable part of the set, let's start there. First, I don't like when minifigs are the sole factor to buying a set, design and price per piece must be priority, then you add the minifigs in to increase the collecting factor and bring the universe of Star Wars to life. The updated Mace Windu is nice with the more accurate Clone Wars leg prints with the white not being faded on the legs for once. Secondly, getting another purple blade always feels good. The face is a little generic and doesn't have Clone Wars style art, neither does the new Grievous, while very similar, he's white and not Clone Wars tan. This is what at first led me to believe it wasn't from the Clone Wars, but if it is it's like LEGO forgot halfway through making this set and put a revenge of the Sith spin on it. I also don't remember Windu fighting Grievous in the Florrum invasion, but it's been a while since I've watched the show. On to Grievous, wow, he looks great in a more movie accurate white color scheme, but I don't think there were many updates from his Clone Wars model. Of course the original 2005 Grievous will always hold a special place in my collection, but this mold is so much better. Now the speeder..... Okay, great it's actually bigger than I thought I used about 10 bigger pieces that MIGHT justify a $24.99 price tag if you include that fact that it is probably pretty costly to make the Grievous figure. The build itself was pretty forgetable, the control section is good for Grievous, but need a generic printed tile somewhere to give it some life, the limited amount of stickers was nice, the spring loaded missiles are hidden fairly, and I like the use of the extreme tire piece to form the engine, but there's no translucent piece back there taking away from the engine feel. Plenty of stud space on the top to include other droids, MagnaGuards (which should've been in this set instead of Mace Windu, two of them justifying the price) riding along side Grievous into battle or having enemy minfigs hop on to battle Grievous. My meory must be slipping of when Windu and Grievous fought except in the old Clone Wars series. Anyway, good Seperatist vehicle to have in your army, but only at $19.99. I bought mine at Walmart for $24.99, so I felt a little better about it. The construction of the set is pretty sturdy and from the few rare pictures I've seen of this thing, LEGO did a good job staying true to form. This makes me miss the old days of LEGO when you could build up fleets of vehicles because they would release nice $15.00-$20.00 sets, but those days are gone now. Overall, the set leaves much to be desired with not a whole lot of playability or collecting value other than some nice updated minifigs. If you can find this set on sale, definitely get it, but other than that if you're not hardcore into owning every LEGO set, take a pass.
Two excellent designs of minifigures are nowhere near enough to save 75199 General Grievous' Combat Speeder from being the overpriced, oversized beast that it is, particularly when the quality on one of the minifigures is questionable in any way whatsoever. Whilst dull source material is an issue that can only be rarely overcome or improved upon when converting into LEGO, the LEGO Group were not necessarily tied to choosing such odd source material in this instance, compared with, say, the unavoidable and sometimes iffy source material that they have to work to on each year's new film. Ultimately, this feels like a poor excuse to put Mace Windu and General Grievous in a set together.
The price of £25.99 or $29.99 is nothing short of ridiculous in my opinion. This 157-piece set feels like it is worth about two thirds of the current cost and at a significant discount I would recommend it. Having said that, the scale of the model is also rather strange and I think it should have been designed to suit a typical Battle Pack price point, even if the set still only contained these two figures.
Let's talk about the bantha in the room: For $30, 157 pieces and only two minifigs, this set is disappointing. This feels like a $20 Star Wars set. If there were two more minifigs, even run of the mill clone troopers, that would lessen the pain. But two popular characters are not enough to make this fly off the shelf. Ignoring limited play features, it looks cool and would be fun in a kid's playroom to compliment other Star Wars vehicles. But what is the real motivation for buying this other than two minifigs?
