To say this kit is detailed is a bit of an understatement. Between the scale and high piece count (which tops even the 2011 Ultimate Collector Series Super Star Destroyer), a LOT of work was done to make this one stand out among the 16 years' worth of Star Destroyer entries in the LEGO Star Wars line. The instruction guide itself (presented in three languages including English, French, and Spanish) is basically one part collector's art book, as it contains features about the ship's lore within the Star Wars universe as well as tales from the LEGO designers who brought this piece to life!

This was a pretty cool build, and the small details add up to make a great, overall set. The engineering feat to accommodate the ship to be on a stand and display properly is extremely impressive: remember that most LEGO sets are flat on the bottom, or can be rested on the ground. This set cannot rest on the ground and is certainly more fragile, but it is a true 360 degree visual delight. It's purely a model, so if you are looking for a long build and impressive size, this the set for you (assuming you have the disposable income). If you are looking for something to play with or are saving to buy this, there are plenty of great sets besides this one. I do echo the complaint others have made: why wouldn't a Vader figure come with his own ship! LEGO should send one out to all those whom bought a set. But the ship speaks for itself, and the packaging is also exclusive and impressive.

I would recommend viewing the model in person if possible. 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer has exceeded my expectations and I think other LEGO Star Wars fans may share this opinion after experiencing its sheer scale. This is undoubtedly the definitive rendition of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer.

It's hard to recommend dropping $700 on an Ultimate Collector Series Imperial Star Destroyer whose primary attribute is merely “impressive."

A lot of the issues that you may have with the set are either easily fixable or aren't necessarily such a big deal. I plan to make many mods to this set, but even without them, I think the finished product is fitting of its price tag when I look at the other elements of this set beyond its part and minifigure count. If you have the previous incarnation of the set, I don't know that it's worth upgrading to this set, but rather taking steps to mod and update your old copy. If you are simply looking for a massive, fun Lego experience, I would personally say the Falcon is a more enriching experience and carries a more unique color scheme to boot, whereas this ship is for an even more diehard audience. But if you love Star Destroyers, love collecting massive sets, or simply want to find something that will challenge your display space, this set is the one for you.
