My pre-teen year son loved this set and said to was one of the best sets he's ever had. It's small, but has several neat aspects to it like the break away walls, unique Mandarin, less common Mk 42 armor, upgraded Extremis helicopter, DUM-E robot, and stickers.
this is a pretty attractive set considering everything you get in the mansion. The helicopter is a good addition although I wish it could have been better executed. The lack of substance in the middle of the chopper leaves it much to be desired. The main draw of the set is probably the minifigures themselves. You get for the very first time a Tony Stark and a Pepper Potts minifig. The Extremis Soldier is also good if you're building some sort of army.
I have to say I like this set. It's a nice build, if somewhat quick and short, and includes a list of characters I'm very happy to have. The helicopter is a disappointment, as is the somewhat cramped nature of the Mansion, but overall it's good.
I think this is a very nice set. The part selection is a good mix between larger structural elements and small bits, and the five minifigs are a big draw. The helicopter is cool, and the mansion looks nice, and incorporates a lot of playability. The one thing I'd have liked is perhaps a little more of a roof to the mansion, or maybe a very small piece of cliff underneath it, to give the building more context.
Pick it up during a decent sale, then promptly take the figures, grab some extra parts, and build a better version of the set.
Overall, Malibu Mansion Attack isn't much of a set. But, at $40, I suppose it's what you paid for. The five minifigs we get are all great and for what it is the mansion works. I guess I wish the helicopter didn't feel like so much of an afterthought and that we got a little something more to push this set over to being a really good set.
