This is a set which I recommend very highly. Elrond and Arwen are well worth picking up loose if you cannot justify the cost of the entire set, although you will not be disappointed if you do purchase it.

I just bought this along with the three other new Lord of the Rings Lego sets. It's a quaint little set, not a lot of action features, nor does there need to be given the scene. I will say however, the trees and the contrast of foliage are well designed. I'm hoping this is part of a larger Rivendell expansion. My only real complait with the set is in the choice of minifigures. We've yet to get an elderly Bilbo Baggins, and this would be the perfect set to include him in. Plus, I think there's too many Gimlis throughout this series. This is the fourth set he's been included in, while certain figures, like the Hobbits (Sam, Pip, and Merry) are hard to find. On the other hand, I'm glad to see Elrond and Arwen. Well anyway, it's a good set for a good price. Like I said, I'm hoping Lego expands more on the LOTR lines. There's still a lot of Middle Earth we haven't seen yet.

As a whole, I really like the look and feel of The Council of Elrond set. The colors that were used are excellent and it makes the set stand out. The minifigures that were included were great choices but I'm wondering why LEGO did not include Boromir as he did have one of the best lines from the movie. One downside of the set is that it is far too small to give the scene justice. There were 22 members present in the movie and the set only has three seats which is a huge difference. Besides that one issue, I still think The Council of Elrond is good set to pick up especially for any Lord of the Rings fans.

Pick it up, for parts at the least. Should this set dip down to about the $25 (or better) range, it becomes exceptional value for the parts.

All in all, this a good set for fans, or parts collectors. I can't imagine that there's a lot here to be excited about for kids who aren't major fans of the movie, since the structure isn't even defensible. Still, each of the weapons in the set (except Gimli's axe) have an extra included, so it's not a bad weapons pack, plus there are 2 extras of the 1 Ring (good thing Sauron didn't have backups).

I'm amazed at how well they've managed to capture Rivendell in such a small set, they got everything right. The colour scheme, the new foliage and details like those cute microfig statues give this set real charm. Even the play function is cleverly done: the Eye underneath the table to represent the moment the Eye appeared when Gimli hit the One Ring with his axe might seem gimmicky, but as I've said, I think it's really clever.
