I'll be honest, I didn't initially plan on getting this set, especially since this whole wave of Monkie Kid sets has been really strong (Spring 2021). However, I was pleasantly surprised with a clean and satisfying build, extremely effective function, and quirky appearance. BUILD: It is a pure building experience with nothing too surprising but lots of "studs-not-on-top" building and a variety of shapes and colors, including the cute little side-build. It comes together as a very sturdy structure. (Appropriate considering how easy it is to fly around). PLAY: This is a super swooshable jet, and the firing function is really satisfying to use, as the two launched pieces fire one after the other in quick succession. The trigger is smooth to use and reload is easy. While accomplishing a similar purpose as the NINJAGO Boulder Blaster, the function here is easier to use and repeat quickly. DISPLAY: It's a pretty small jet, but the little piece of Flower Fruit Mountain can set a nice scene. The color scheme of Red Son's vehicles can get mixed up when next to MK's red and yellow vehicles, but it looks very nice next to the Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain or the White Dragon Horse Jet. Simple yet elegant.

I wanted the Red Son character. However, I have been waiting for a set that I like to include him. The previous releases did not interest me. This set also missed the mark. Had I purchased any third wave Monkie Kid sets I would have bought the Dronecopter to get Red Son. With that said, Dronecopter is much more expensive than this set. Therefore, Red Son's Inferno Jet still presents a cheaper alternative to getting Red Son than any other kit in the Monkie Kid theme. That is this set's main selling point in my opinion.

The LEGO Monkie Kid Red Son's Inferno Jet (80019) is a fun little set that I think kids will enjoy. Obviously the main feature here is the missile launchers and I'm afraid that the design will make kids use it more as a gun than as a jet. Let's just say the warning in the instructions didn't apply to me. The Flower Fruit Mountain mini build doesn't really add much to the overall set but another throw in is always good.

As one of the smaller sets in the latest wave, it's a fairly simple build but the resulting set is fun. I like the little nods to Red Son's other creations and the small bits of detail dotted around the jet help to give it some character. I especially like grey-tinted flames as they are an unusual take of the normal version of the element. Having three Minifigures is a nice bonus, even though they aren't as unique as some of those from some of the other sets.

80019 doesn't quite have that quantity of new parts but the recolours are for me among the most exciting this wave has produced, and the build was a pleasant surprise. Red Son's Inferno Jet nails the play feature aspect extraordinarily, more so than just about any set I've built recently.

The Inferno Jet is a very swooshable model, with a brilliant play feature that children will have hours of fun with, even if it's quite tricky to encourage them not to fire the missiles at each other when they're literally holding the model like a gun! It looks great, in a very striking colour scheme, with a suitably wacky minifigure to pilot it.
