This is a great playset by Duplo that encourages kids to build a fully functioning interactive toy. Once built, it is a lot of fun and engaging. The push and go motor is perfect for young kids and the wide track is easy to set the train on.
The steam train is powerful and solid built that it could pull more than 8 passenger cars! My train linked Micky three cars and animal four cars. The steam train has a color detection device on the bottom which detects color to stop, turn on light, play sound etc. Train track are not required. It could run either on floor or on track. Also, it could remote control by iphone. The remote app is called "Lego Duplo Connected Train", but not the old app "Lego Duplo Train". Highly recommended, both parent and children play happily.
I bought this together with the Train Bridge and Tracks (10872) and the engine with an empty car can't make it to the top of the bridge 30%-40% of the time. When using the app, the motor is noticeably weaker and stops 90% of the time before reaching the bridges's top. The tracks+bridge were setup on a flat, solid surface. Fresh AAA Energizer batteries were used. This is just nitpicking on an otherwise amazing set.
