After my initial scepticism I am warming to Super Mario and had fun experimenting with this set to maximise my score. It was not much fun just stomping on the downtrodden mole for 50 seconds or so, and perhaps the fact that you can continually do so to accumulate points could be considered a shortcoming of the game.
LEGO Super Mario 40414 Monty Mole & Super Mushroom Expansion Set is a nice, clean set. It is packed into a small space and offers a visually appealing model that also has great functionality that will add to the gameplay. Those buying 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course will enjoy this free gift add-on.
What I really like about this set is the knock-on effect of the set, you topple the Stone-Eye, which is connected to the rest of the set with a Technic pin. This causes it to hit another lever, which revealed a Monty Mole. Stomping down on the Stone-Eye causes Monty to spring from this hidey-hole. I did find that placing Monty in the slot in the small hill, felt very snug and almost as it was catching on something. But the motion of the various levers seems to be enough to easily flip Monty.
