This was the first BrickHeadz I bought, and I got it for my boyfriend to nudge him into LEGO, especially since he likes pandas. I think with 3 figurines to build and at almost 250 pieces, the price is worth what you get. One nice thing we noticed is that the pandas aren't hollow- they've got a nice build throughout, which makes them feel like they have substance and are of good quality. We also love that one of the baby pandas is built to lay down, which we thought was a super cute touch. The baby that is laying down can also swivel on its base, which was a nice little addition, as well. It was a very easy and relatively fast build, but even just this got my boyfriend excited in building LEGOS again.
40466 Chinese New Year Pandas isn't something I'd recommend easily, especially with so many other great new 2021 sets out on the market. But if you're a Brickheadz collector, or cute and cuddly builds, it could be worth considering if you're looking to fill up your cart on LEGO.com to qualify for free shipping or a gift with purchase.
Whether you celebrate the lunar festival or not, 40466 Chinese New Year Pandas is a wonderful model that is fun to build and looks so cute on display. It would make a perfect ‘good luck' gift (something we all need in 2021) or as a symbol of strength on your desk as you work from home.
In the end the sets themselves are cute (well, for BrickHeadz) and will certainly please kids who love animals, but AFOLs who want to expand their collection with new parts will certainly pass on these sets.
Overall, it's nice to see LEGO expand on the the Lunar New Year celebration but the LEGO BrickHeadz Chinese New Year Pandas (40466) seem to be somewhat lacking something. The mother panda and her baseplate are the best things from it and I do like the detailing in the tree. They are cute and I have them displayed on my shelf but the price point seems a little high for what you get.
Pandas are cute and adorable and these blocky representations of them are not too bad either, although nothing particularly special or noteworthy. I suspect, therefore, that outside of Asia they will mostly appeal to BrickHeadz collectors and aficionados, such as myself.
