Bought for my son for Christmas. He was very excited to build this. It should be noted that the build instructions for the alternate build are NOT included in the box. They can be downloaded for free from lego.com, but the printout is 125 pages! so be prepared to use up ink and paper if you want a hard copy.
Backgournd: This is my 4th Technic sets since October. Just fell in love with LEGO Technics. My last purchase of LEGO went back to early 2000's when my mom bought me a hospital and a police station and I loved them. Never thought my passion for LEGO still inside me. About the set: Let's talk cons first. No built in pf. A little unbalanced to the head. Not too much details as in 42039 (suspensions etc). And finally, I think it is overpriced (cents/piece-wise). It is $89.99 in Canada with only 608 pieces. Usually for Technics it should be 10 cents/piece after a 20% discount, which is the threshold for me buying these sets. pros: The apperance. It just looks so good. The color, the design. This one simple reason is enough for me to purchase the set and recommend it to everyone.
Unlike typical LEGO sets, this set includes large panel pieces with decals that give the completed truck a realistic and detailed look. The cab features opening doors, a detailed V8 engine with moving pistons, and working front steering.
I don't know why the 42041 Race Truck has been re-released, supposedly there was enough demand to justify it. I don't think LEGO do that too often. The set is ok, but doesn't really do much for me. Personally, I prefer the B-Model to the Race Truck, a truck without a trailer just doesn't look right to me. I think the B-Model looks pretty good but is a bit flimsy in places.
