This was a really cool build but with the weight of this set with having the first of it's kind 3 speed transmission, its very underpowered. Honestly to power this model forward or in reverse, it needs 2 XL motors, not just one because in 3rd gear it badly loses torque and cannot go as well as it should if it had more power pushing it. With having 4 ports on the hub, it totally would of and should of been feasible to add a second XL motor to help power the 6 large wheels. So in all a great build, impressive look but vastly underpowered.
This set is a nice addition to the Control + family, and maybe the most interesting one as it features 3 different motors for a good price. The build is a bit repetitive at the end, but is otherwise quite nice, even for a Technic novice like me. Parts wise, the set is ok, with obviously a lot of yellow parts, but two big linears actuators are always welcome. The big mudguard pieces are also very nice. This set may not be the most good looking Technic set, but it may be the best to enter the Control + world.
Overall, though, I am impressed and I think it's the best Technic Control+ model thus far released. Attractive, clever, and quite fun to operate, at least at first, until the novelty wears off...
If you're looking for a solid remote-control building experience, this feels like a hit. If you're looking for a standard LEGO Technic model, it feels like a miss. So just be sure you're looking for the right experience before you pick this one up. I just wish LEGO had made the difference a little more plain on the packaging.
The finished model looks incredibly lifelike and is very accurate to the real life truck. It's probably not a set for those new to the theme as it can be very technical in places, but fans familiar with LEGO Technic will no doubt get a lot from this set.
This is an incredible set! It looks amazing, but I didn't feel like a lot of the build time was spend just to make it look pretty, like I had with for instance the 42100-1 Liebherr. Everything feels functional. The build went smooth, but is challenging as there are multiple places where a mistake can cause a lot of re-doing. So you need to keep your attention.
Once the model is finished we can turn the hub on and connect it to the CONTROL+ app to do the initial calibration (and find out if we have made any mistakes in the construction). So far the model looks quite impressive. With three motors for … 3 functions (3-speed drive, steering and load tipping) and a large bucket, the model starts off with good potential for play.
