My first thoughts about the Protector of Ice are that he has a great color scheme, but suffers from a lack of elbows and a short stature, but does he measure up to the other sets? Find out below. Parts The Protector of Ice has an excellent array of cool and useful parts. He contains some rare technic bits and bobs, though not much. His two 3-long beams with a ball-joint in the center are a huge plus, very useful parts. He has a shmorgasborg of translucent light-blue parts, excellent additions to any parts fan. As well, His mask is a cool mold (The skull mask is cool too), though I don't like how small it looks, it just doesn't look right. But I must say I am very impressed with the new pin-on piece, it looks incredible, adds bulk, and overall is a very nice piece. Functions Oh dear… OK, not going to lie, I am not very happy with the functions. The saw spins OK, but the shooter fires all over the place and loses the studs easily. The mask launching function makes it difficult to keep the mask on at times while not really improving the set's design. Final product Color scheme is incredible, the white and trans-blue blend well together, and I don't really mind the little bits of silver. The bulk distribution is also quite good, while his legs look skinny and out of place at times his arms and torso have good bulk to them, but I find the torso is a bit thick. What I find to be the main flaw with this set is the lack of elbows: With his weapons it is hard to notice his lack of elbows, but unarmed it is very distracting. His arms go from being decently bulky, strait into his hands. I find this flaw to make posing him difficult, but I would say it is best to leave the weapons in his hands. Final verdict The Protector of Ice is a very nice set, solid color scheme, good parts, and is overall a very nice figure. He does have noticeable flaws though, mostly his lack of elbows. I would say this set would be a good pick for people who want to build up their ice-parts collection or perhaps for people who like ice characters in general (Like me.) But I would recommend if you just wanted a Bionicle set, choose a different one (Perhaps one with elbows) He isn't a bad set, the others are just better.

The constructed figure has multiple points of articulation in the arms and legs, and comes with two weapons. One of the weapons is a spinning ice saw, and the other is the Elemental Ice Blaster with rapid shooter, which fires LEGO stud pieces. The figure also has a dual-tone mask that pops off when you press the trigger, and it comes with a silver skull spider enemy figure.
These protectors are really difficult to give solid thoughts on. This guy has some great parts, decent weapons, a great color scheme, and of course ice is one of my favorite elements, so that really ramps up his coolness-factor in my eyes. I guess my opinion on the Protectors remains to be the same- If you get their Toa counterpart, you should get the Protector as well. They go well together, and it's always worth it to have the option to use parts from the Protector to improve upon your Toa's design, or vice versa.
The Protector of Ice is definitely a cool little set. At $10 for 62 pieces, I'd say you get a pretty good value, with lots of action features and role play possibilities. It's definitely a good entry point to the Bionicle line if you don't feel like shelling out the big bucks for one of the Toa.
I would honestly only recommend the Protector of Ice in order to complete the collection, or to try out Kopaka's Power Up mode. However, even then you might be better off buying a second Kopaka, buying the PoI, and having a Power Up mode alongside the normal mode, then dumping the other parts in your collection for MOC purposes. He's a pass for me.
Despite handling a lot like the Protector of Fire (which would normally be a bad thing) the Protector of Ice poses and plays impressively well. He's livened up by the transparent colors, and the two weapons together make for a fun combination. He definitely feels equal to the sum of his parts, but that's not always a bad thing.
