This is my first large Lego build and I really enjoyed building the set. There was some repetition such as in the clock tower, but as I built the set a couple of hours at a time, over a few days, this was not too much of a problem. The rear (not the tower) is very plain looking compared to the front of the model. Would have been good if more features could have been incorporated. My fingers are not quite as nimble as they used to be, but I still managed to place all the fiddly small pieces. I took my time so as not to make a mistake as I didn't want to start correcting errors. I thought the instruction manual was good in that the pieces on each page were highlighted, making it easier to find where the had to be placed. The set is now dismantled and back in it's box. That was a very boring, but easy task!
This is a highly detailed 3D puzzle. 4000+ pieces, most of which are small. The end result is a beautiful model. The construction is to say the least, repetitive and boring. I love the final product but my fingers became leathery and sore with all the tiny pieces. I probably should have expected that. I am now working the Technic 42043 Mercedes AROC truck.Much more fun to build and full of surprises as the various gears and mechanisms come together. If you're looking for fun, build the truck. If you like repetitive things, buy Big Ben!
I enjoy the set, and recommend it. It is true that it's a repetitive build process, making it considerably less enjoyable to build than some of the other big sets we've reviewed.
This is an incredible model. 10253 Big Ben looks spectacular from most angles and the level of detail represented by intricate assemblies on the exterior is unmatched. Furthermore, the numerous tiny statues are authentic and the arrangement of the windows is an almost exact replica of the real building.
