The set is the epitome of all the past Modulars in the series and is a worthy anniversary set. Fast forward 10 years and I have no doubt that this set will be highly sort after and talked about.
This set lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I was intrigued with all the little details as I built and found it really enjoyable.
I'd say this is the nicest modular set I have! I really love how much details were put into the set, just like the Parisian Restaurant. I also like how they separated bags 1-3 in another box, that way I didn't have to empty out the bigger box to search for the bags. Price point I think is fair for the number of pieces and minifigure you are getting. I indicated 12 hrs as the build time but probably I am just slow in building it (bought the set on January 1, and as of this posting, I'm halfway through bags 5!). I highly recommend this set to anyone who's into the modular buildings. Happy 10th year!
As an AFOL, these are the only sets I purchase. I've collected all but 2 of this wonderful series. (I'd love to get my hands on a decently priced Green Grocer or Market Street.) This set kept me busy for the better part of 2 days and the details are amazing! There's a bakery, florist, coffee shop, music shop, ballet studio, photography studio, dentist's office, and a studio apartment. The only thing I was most displeased with was the condition of the LEGO box. It was opened at both ends, had a bright green sticker on the front and looked like it had been beat up pretty bad. As someone who keeps the boxes in pristine condition, this was a major disappointment for me. Luckily all pieces/parts were there. I absolutely love this set, regardless of the crappy box I got it in.
Honestly, this is a great set and a real tribute to the whole series. I'd rate this as a must have, it should appeal to all adult collectors. It is packed full of details, it is a delight to build and although it has a few minor things that could be improved on, that is always the case and I look forward to seeing any modifications that our members decide to make and share with us. Great parts, great design, decent price and lots to keep anyone busy for hours, plus a very impressive display piece either as a stand alone set of in a line with other modular buildings.
This is a great set, and I highly recommend it. Save those pennies and buy it during the next Double VIP Points event if you have not already. That way you get a great set, and will probably get another free smaller one with your points on your next visit to the LEGO Store. While the set does cost a lot, you are buying LEGO bricks in bulk, so the value is actually really good. You also get a lot of build time for the price, which is excellent. The Minifigures are nothing special, but every city needs fillers.
If you are a fan of modular buildings, and especially if you have been collecting them for the last 10 years, you are going to get this set no matter what. Despite falling into that category myself, upon completing Assembly Square my feeling was largely one of disappointment over what feels like a missed opportunity. As the 10 year anniversary set, 10255 was given a higher price point and piece count than any of these sets before. Instead of doing something that would only be possible with those resources, the designers chose to recycle features of past offerings. I would have loved to see something truly different, maybe four stories, or a building use which would not normally be possible like a multi-platform train station. Instead we got a slightly larger footprint with three noticeably smaller buildings. Standing in line with the masterpieces that have come before, it will not look out of place – but it won't stand out and shine above them either.
This is a tremendous set. I can never choose a single favourite Modular Building as my selection is constantly changing but 10255 Assembly Square is definitely another contender for the title! It is as detailed as any of the others and includes a thoroughly impressive selection of new pieces as well as plenty of interesting architectural features.
10255 Assembly Square is not likely to go on sale often, but it's well worth it at full price. This set is a love letter to the fan community, and is packed with details we love, new parts to drool over, Easter eggs galore, and is beautiful just to look at.
If it's within your means and you're an AFOL, I can't recommend Assembly Square highly enough. It was a treat to construct, it looks beautiful from every angle inside and out, and it pays lovely homage to the rest of the Modular Building series that came before it. Also the parts selection: ridiculous.
This is awesome. It's hard to believe designer Jamie Berard can keep pulling these out of the bag. This special 10th anniversary model is bigger than ever before - just over 4000 pieces sitting on a 32x48 base - and in many ways, is better than ever before. For starters, it has a brilliant array of completely new LEGO pieces, some of which fans have been dying to own for years.
Last time I examined all the new and interesting pieces; this time I'll take a look at the build.
