This was a great project for my 10-year old and I. We had a great time putting together.
This set celebrates iconic New York buildings. Whether you live in New York or just appreciate design and architecture, it makes a beautiful display piece for a home or office.
I love it! I went to New York for vacation so after I built it i placed it on top of the chimney to display it with my other New York souvenirs. The Lady Liberty is super small though I feel like it can get easily lost. I think she should have been a little bigger and should have been carrying the book n the torch it would be a lot better but I still love it!
A nice LEGO Architecture set, introducing a new concept based on cities and not just one building. The buildings are great and well chosen.
This is a nice set with nice element use (the tooth plates, the sand blue, the grill tiles) which nicely captures the spirit of the greatest city in the world. (As the founder of NYCLUG, I admit I'm a little biased.) I imagine that a second NYC set is coming soon that will include landmarks we haven't seen yet, such as Grand Central Terminal, the old Penn Station, and the Woolworth Building. But for now, this grouping of the Big Apple's best will do!
With all said and done, I love this set. If you like New York, then get it. Otherwise, well, its value is primarily in its representation of the city. It could work as a parts pack, but honestly, why would you do that?
The Statue of Liberty and the Flatiron Building are both cute, fun builds but unfortunately the Chrysler Building is the only real 'miss' across these three sets for me. The 'spire' at the top is great, but the main building made of White and Transparent plates and tiles is too simplistic compared to the other buildings. The colour contrast between building and spire also feels too strong to me. It's a nice enough build though, with the offset technique repeatedly employed to taper the shape.
The models do represent the respective buildings pretty well although it does get somewhat tedious building a few of them. Even then, the final result does make a great display piece especially if you live in New York.
Of the three cityscapes I think this one is probably my favourite, for several reasons. It provides a greater variety of techniques used for constructing the buildings, some of which are very simple, while others are quite complex. Also, the height of the buildings help make this a far more impressive model, especially at first glance. I don't suppose there are many landmarks in the world that are better known than those represented here (except perhaps some London and Paris ones) so its appeal will be universal, which might not be the case for the other two. If you fancy dipping your toes into the Architecture line this would be an excellent set to start with. It's a fun build and makes a fantastic display piece. If you live in NYC buying it will be a no-brainer!
I really do like this set, and especially enjoyed the complex building techniques. Setting aside the relatively high price for such a collection of tiny parts, I also appreciated the variety of small detail parts.
