This set features a winding wall with two large turrets and green terrain which add creative detail to this build. While this set is pretty complicated to build it's not just for the advanced builder, kids can tackle this as well. This set took us about 40 minutes to build and the end result is pretty stunning.
Very nice addition to the Architecture series. Looks great displayed with the skylines but stands out with its unique shape and colours. I also like that it feels more substantial and sturdy than the classic skylines, which can be a bit fragile. Love this set and want more like it!
This is a clever fake designed to game the system. The front image of the box does not have the # of pieces, which is standard. Also, close ups show a really beaten up box compare to the images of the pristine box on the real LEGO product. Also, it's $30 more than the real deal. I don't think a structure that spans thousands of miles really works as a LEGO set. While the Great Wall is a historically-important piece of architecture, I'm not sure it compares favorably to more architecturally focused models like #21019 Eiffel Tower or 21029 Buckingham Palace.
I can't say that it's one of my favourite Architecture sets but there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. It captures the 'essence' of the wall well while not being based on any particular section of it. It's a much quicker and less challenging build than others, but it still looks great on display and probably even more impressive when you have several.
Overall, the Great Wall of China (21041) is a decent looking set but it's tiny compared to the scale of the its real-life counterpart. The dimensions of it are decent and I do like how the pathway looks on it especially going into the towers. The ability to expand it into a larger wall is one of the best features of this set.
Connecting multiple copies of the set is where the Great Wall really shows off. I purchased an additional two sets, tripling the length of the wall to great effect. (I started with just one extra copy, but it looked too symmetrical. If you want to extend it for a more natural look, three or more is the way to go.) It is rare when The Brothers Brick recommends purchasing a second copy of a set, and rarer still when we suggest getting three. But where the 21041 Great Wall of China set lacks in complexity, it gains exponentially in display value the longer it gets, transforming a simple set into a stunning model.
