I am not a Lego person, but I am a Vegas person and when I saw this set I just had to have it! Having not touched a Lego brick for eons - and having never built anything with a guide book, the assembly was a bit confusing at first. The biggest problem I had was identifying the part colors (light grey vs dark gray, clear brick vs smoke brick). But, a couple of hours later, I had a mini-Las Vegas skyline just like the picture on the box. Would love to see an expansion kit to add more buildings.
An enjoyable and relaxing build with some fun techniques in between. If you're looking for a great desktop piece who also happens to love Vegas and LEGO it's a no brainier to get this. Yes, a lot of criticism lies of the placement or inclusion/exclusion of certain buildings but the intention is to get the feel of the city skyline, not a spot on accurate representation.
We just loved this Lego Architecture's interpretation of Las Vegas. It is just so cool to see the attractions located on and around the Las Vegas Strip represented in such an accurate and realistic way. Plus, we loved the included booklet, which contains information about the designers, architecture and history of each structure, as well as historical facts about Las Vegas and its architectural heritage.
I think the set itself is pretty good. Most architecture sets are a bit overpriced, yes, but for $40 it's pretty good. I said that some of the buildings used weren't the most iconic, but all the buildings look really nice and portray a great skyline. The Bellagio's fountain is really nicely done as well, I'm glad they were able to get the shooting water effect.
Overall, this is a worthy addition to the LEGO Architecture Skyline series. I was pleased by some of the new building techniques including the subtle curve on the Wynn, and the elegant curved legs on the Stratosphere. There are also some things I don't like, including the building techniques used to create the Bellagio, and the fact that the buildings appear out of order.
This is another excellent addition to the Skyline series. As I said at the start Las Vegas is perhaps a surprising choice for a LEGO set given the city's reputation but it does present a good opportunity to model a good variety of buildings, which have been modelled using interesting techniques.
Vegas-loving people and LEGO Architecture series completists will feel at home with set 21047, and custom model builders will likely find value in LEGO's inclusion of some of the latest parts in their portfolio. With few exceptions, the overall building experience is enjoyable and the skyline as a whole looks excellent when finished. This was a stark contrast to my initial expectations, which were a little less than enthusiastic. That being said, I do feel there are stronger entries in the series like 21039 Shanghai, but Las Vegas has enough character for me to make a solid recommendation. Buy it for a nice, casual build or to expand your collection of useful parts.
Being that this was my first LEGO Architecture set, I admittedly took a bit of a gamble in purchasing it – but I certainly hit the jackpot. If you have been to Vegas and have good memories of your time there you will absolutely love this set. If you're a fan of micro building then it should also be on your list – and if you're a fan of LEGO in general, looking for something more mature, then this also comes recommended.
Overall, the LEGO Architecture Las Vegas (21047) is an above-average set for me personally. I do like some of the building techniques used like the curvature of the Wynn and the SNOT for the Bellagio but I don't like the amount of stacking of elements for the two hotels. It seems like a cop-out but I guess there's not many ways to create them in a scale this size.
