Recommendation: meh 4.6 / 5 from 94 reviews

This was a pleasant build. The pedestal is classic Lego and nicely done, The statue is anything but classic. The way designers were able to replicate the drape and folds of the robe, the tablet in the left hand, the raised right foot breaking free from bondage---amazing! The face, that takes some getting used to.

So should you buy the new Architecture set 21042? Definitely YES, YES, YES! I wrote it in the beginning and I write it once again: If not for the beauty of a wonderful display set, buy it for the parts!

This is an absolutely beautiful architecture set. Some other builders have stated that they don't like that there isn't more detail in the face; I agree that it could look better to have some, but I don't feel it detracts from the simple beauty of this set. I really enjoyed this one, as I build the architecture series of places that I (and/or my family) have seen. This one is different from the others in that it really gives height to the set, which allows for the folds of fabric in the statue to be seen and explored. Just a lot of fun to build, and I think this one will definitely get many comments. Kudos, LEGO !

On display 21042 Statue of Liberty is a fantastic replica that dwarfs other Architecture models – and would make a great conversation starter for a coffee table (or a not so subtle hint that you dream of visiting the Big Apple). It will be interesting to see if the success of Lady Liberty will light the way for future Architecture sets of a similar size and style, with plenty of marvels like the Great Sphinx of Giza or Mount Rushmore ripe for this kind of treatment. This set comes highly recommended for fans of this long running theme.

This is pretty much the perfect Architecture set: based on an iconic structure, a challenging build, an excellent looking and accurate model, and dozens of new parts. The price is not too bad either, given the piece count and size of it.

The Statue of Liberty (21042) is the the largest LEGO Architecture set that I've built and it's probably one of best ones I've built as well. The model is very accurate to its real-life counterpart and it's also a great set to sit down and put together. There are a lot of new pieces in sand green that builders will want to pick over for their own purposes. The only downside is probably the higher price but it's still well under the golden ratio of $0.10/piece, especially with what you get. I highly recommend this set as it makes a great display piece as long as you have space for it.

Altogether, the puzzle that is 21042 Statue of Liberty is a particularly challenging build with a stunning result. At slightly more than seven cents a piece, it is also priced reasonably considering it is the second-largest LEGO Architecture set by piece count, following the massive 2,276-piece 21010 Robie House.
