It is a good introduction to technic but the scoop doesn't work that well. It definitely pairs well with the technic excavator. All in all a small decent lego set!

It manages to take the small size of its early predecessor, yet combine it with some of the better functionality of its bigger brother. The single boom design can cause the function to be a little shaky, but other than that, it serves the set well. The build experience certainly isn't quite as good as its larger brother, but I often enjoy unique builds like this, rather than more standard cars.

So lets first address the elephant in the room. These small, basic, Technic sets are unlikely to fulfill most adult builders that are wanting complex, intricate models. But this set was never supposed to be for those people. I think they pack in just enough Technic to satisfy the technical aspect of the theme, only just though. With a great selection of parts alt build designers will certainly be attracted to this set. It's also the perfect set to introduce to those kids who are ready for Technic, with some nice Technic techniques but not overly complex or frustrating. However, the main build I found to be pretty a shaky final model. The single boom doesn't exactly lend itself to stability. And the b-model is quite a nice build but ultimately a pretty flat final model.

The build is very straightforward and there is little to comment on. [...] Once extended, the arm is a bit shaky, making it a little harder to play with the model.

There's nothing here really that'll be of interest to AFOLs -- other than a pair of black bushes that have not been used in a Technic set since 2005 -- but as a means of introducing the more advanced building system to a youngster and fostering an interest in mechanics and machines, it's ideal.

Overall, this is a fun little model with some satisfying touches that will have a lot of appeal for those looking for an introduction to Technic. While it might not offer anything new to veterans of the theme, it's still got enough going on at a low cost to make it worth checking out.

These are great little sets. They don't try to do too much, and there's nothing overly complicated here — indeed the most frustrating part of the build would be applying the stickers, if you chose to. Nevertheless they include some neat mechanical functions that serve as a great introduction to Technic for young builders.
