Overall, this final set in the initial Hobbit line is a good addition to any collection. You get an amazing 7 regular minifigures and the oversized Goblin King figure. Plus, all the minifigures are exclusive to the set except for Gandalf so you'll probably need this set to get all the Dwarves. The playset also has plenty of features that will keep kids entertained for a while.
My hubby who loves both Legos and LOTR was jazzed about this gift. He use to have a tub full of legos, but sold it after college, and has regretted it ever since. I got this as a gift for him so he can restart his Lego collection. The set itself is not very large, it took him about 2 1/2 hrs to build. This set has lots of weird pieces like "skulls," sharp bones, and of couse the Goblin King. My husband like werido things and this was up his alley. I think the detail pieces, like a book that opens, little jewels, etc are really niece touches. I would really recommend this set to any kid at heart. The only thing that bummed me out was the price, I ended up paying $25 more here on Amazon, and then less 2 weeks later, it decreased in price.
This set surprised me a bit. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do and I think the change in my attitude changed was due to seeing the Goblin Town scene in the Hobbit movie. The set has some flaws but overall is worth buying on discount after you've acquired the others from the line.
Overall I have very mixed feelings about this set. I love the parts selection and even though I have some misgivings about the Goblin King himself, the minifigs are a fun lot. The set design really leaves me cold, but in the end most of us buy sets for the pieces and not the design.
At $75, it delivers on value. But at $100, unless you really want the goblins, kings, or a complete dwarf company, skip it.
